you're watching cbs 5 eyewitness news in high definition. >> woo hoo! >> a bay area cop on a joyride, speeding through a tunnel at 100 miles an hour. and that's just the beginning. good evening. i'm elizabeth cook. >> and i'm ken bastida. cbs 5 reporter christin ayers is at the broadway tunnel in the city with the video and with the first public comments from the officer involved. christin? >> reporter: correct. that officer changing his story
1:39 am
a bit tonight, telling us that the lamborghini he was in was not really going 100 miles an hour and also saying he wasn't drunk. but that's not what he said on his facebook page. the video itself is astonishing. a lamborghini revs its engine, then hurdles ahead, going from zero to 100 through the 35-mile- an-hour zone through the broadway tunnel in 26 seconds flat. >> woo hoo! >> reporter: even more surprising is the man who claims he was in the car is a san francisco police officer. >> is he going to lose his job? >> he obviously took advantage of it because he's a cop. >> reporter: a cop who posted the joyride back on his facebook page. his name is sergeant carl t. he brags "we were all drunk," to the shock of people he posted
1:40 am
the video to. some people pointed out there is a school and a playground close to the russian hillside of the tunnel where the joyride began. since it appears there were no other cars in the tunnel, they say no harm no foul. >> i would describe this as simply driving for purpose. >> reporter: now the officer is facing an internal investigation and the prospect of serious punishment. >> i think he would probably want to do it differently or not at all. >> reporter: the officer also is saying now that he was not the one in the driver's seat. he has since deleted that video and shut down his facebook page. live in san francisco, christin ayers, cbs 5. >> all right, christin. thank you for that. here's some live pictures from orange county. right now students at csu fullerton have been in lockdown
1:41 am
for areas as police comb the campus for an armed robbery suspect. the police chased a car with five robbery suspects from riverside county. three suspects have been caught and police believe one of the two others is at the school. police are investigating whether he's tweeting from campus and asking a friend to come pick him up. and this is one of the other robbery suspects. take a look at this. after running from csu fullerton, he carjacked this silver car -- there it is -- and then took off. he led police into a chase in the watts neighborhood where he crashed the car. in fact, he ran right into a baseball field where the los angeles police chief was helping to hand out toys. the pursuit ended shortly after that. a pickup truck plowed into a house, slamming into a crib where a two-year-old was sound asleep. here's a story where the pictures tell it all, and kiet do has them. >> reporter: we are standing
1:42 am
right in the spot where the drunk driver hit the apartment building here, nose first. it swung around. the side of the truck smacked into the wall. and on the other side was a little girl fast asleep. nala robbins isn't just a holiday miracle. >> my christmas miracle, everything miracle. >> reporter: crews were busy today hammering plywood over the hole in the wall. police say a drunk driver spun out and crashed his truck bed through nala's bedroom. >> it was right here. my bed was here. my baby's bed was right here. and as you can see, it hit this side right here and knocked here -- it was about right here. when it hit, it knocked her to this dresser right here. >> reporter: the two-year-old was asleep inside 24 crib. the force of the impact broke it in half and sent nala flying. her dad found her on the ground
1:43 am
across the room. >> it knocked her off all the way to the dresser. she was responsive but kind of not. and then i was happy to see her crying. sounds crazy but i was happy to see her crying. >> reporter: amazingly, nala was not hurt, not even a scratch. the neighbors held the suspect until police got there. >> do you go to church? are you a religious man? >> i'm not. but i do believe in god a lot. i'm just glad that he was right there for me. >> reporter: the only person who did get injured was nala's mother, cut by flying glass. the driver was arrested and charged with hit-and-run. we learned late this afternoon that governor jerry brown has prostate cancer. cancer always sounds scary, but one oncologist says the governor doesn't have much to
1:44 am
worry about. >> i've slowed down a little but i ran three miles in 29 minutes. >> reporter: he's in pretty good shape for a man in his 70's. governor jerry brown even called out the governor of new jersey. >> i hereby challenge the governor of new jersey to a three-mile race, a push-up contest and a chinup contest. >> reporter: fighting prostate cancer is now his latest challenge. it is early stage cancer and the prognosis is excellent, his doctor says. >> the fact that he's in good condition usually means he'll do better in terms of his energy level throughout the whole process. >> reporter: dr. patrick doesn't treat the governor but he says he will have radiation daily. >> monday through friday, each
1:45 am
day, about ten minutes a day. the treatments are painless. he comes in, lays on the table, gets the treatment. he doesn't feel anything from it. it doesn't slow him down in that way. >> reporter: in 2011, the governor had skin cancer removed from his snow. but dr. swift says it has no impact on this prostate cancer. there are no side effects from the treatment. the governor says he plans to keep up a full schedule. his therapy is expected to be completed by the end of the first week in january. reporting live from the cancer center, linda yee, cbs 5. after weeks on the run, tonight software tycoon john mcafee is in florida. we think. he arrived in miami this afternoon but hasn't been seen since. john mcafee says miami wasn't his choice, but when guatemalan authorities expelled him, they put him on a plane and told
1:46 am
them where to go. they want to question john mcafee about his neighbor's murder. we have new information and the man and woman found tied and gagged on a san francisco street. the suspects go by some pretty unusual names. >> reporter: according to court documents, the two male suspects, one carrying a gun, went inside this home at 3733 san bruno avenue, assaulted the male victim, 26-year-old steven reed, then tied his hands behind his back. then the suspects beat the female victim, 19-year-old audrey prado, then gagged her with a sock. last night a resident told linda yee that the police took key evidence away, including bedding. >> like what? like a computer? >> a computer, mattresses. >> mattresses? >> like a bed. >> reporter: after they drove away, police believe one of the suspects shot stephen reid in
1:47 am
the neck. both victims were dumped on a sidewalk about a half mile away on brussels street. stephen reid was dead. prad prado is still in the hospital. >> whether it was done to send a message is still not clear. >> reporter: five of the suspects were arrested at this home in hercules earlier this week. the woman at the door politely told me the police got it all wrong, but she wouldn't elaborate. >> can you tell me anything? >> have a nice day. >> reporter: the judge would not allow us to point cameras at the suspects but of the four that appeared before the judge, two men and one woman were charged with murder, another woman charged with assault. the suspects had various aliases, including pocahontas, snow and killer. police say the beatings took place here. it also is a place where two of the women who were arrested happen to live. one of those women, maelene

gunman made drastic life chs - but frie in the days leading up to the oregon mall shooting, the gunman made drastic life changes but friends say he showed no signs of violence. 22-year-old jacob roberts quit his job, got rid of most of his stuff and told friends he was moving to hawaii. several days ago he said he got drunk and missed his flight. he also told friends he inherited a lot of money. roberts' own mother had long worried he would end up in jail. >> reporter: the rush of christmas shopping became a rush to survive. bob was walking nearby. >> what did you hear? >> i heard bang, bang, bang, bang, bang! >> reporter: steve forsyth died in the food court. 15-year-old kristina shashanko was seriously wounded.
1:52 am
the gunman knew none of his victims. >> we all need to be very thankful this incident wasn't much worse. >> reporter: clackamas county sheriff says the gunman was armed with an ar-15 semiautomatic assault rifle and carried several magazines of ammunition. >> based on the evidence we obtained, it appeared that the suspect's rifle did jam. >> reporter: the mall had recently run a drill preparing for just such an incident. stores gathered shoppers and locked their doors. police arrived at the mall within two minutes at the first 911 call and brought thousands out of the mall, ordering them all to keep their hands up. witnesses with say 22-year-old jacob roberts was wearing a hockey mask and yelled "i am the shooter" before he ran down a back hall and turned his gun on himself. roberts has no police record, but his mother had seen his life going wrong for years. on her my space web page, he complained of his drug use and refusal to talk to her. in 2008, she wrote, i really thought he was growing up to be

a man, and i'm afraid my son will end up in jail before he gets a clue. >> investigators say the rifle roberts used was stolen that day from someone he knew. well, they devoted their lives to their faith. but a group of east bay nuns are also devoted crime fighters, turns out, and the fbi is taking notice. the fremont-based sisters of the holy family have been working for years to stop human trafficking. they support a number of local agencies that reach out to exploited women and children. they also partner with the fbi to find help and resources for those victims. >> i need the fbi, because of the work that i'm doing. the fbi needs us because we're that link to the community. >> today the fbi honored the sisters with a prestigious community leadership award. and the pope is now tweeting. he sent seven messages so far.

1:55 am
totaling $2200. he says vontage told him he had to pay because he never called to resume service. >> there was some sort of miscommunication, clearly. >> reporter: while most carriers will let you put service on hold, they should tell you if you have to call to resume service. >> it would be best, of course, if there was some sort of record. >> reporter: in this case, the attorney thinks vontage should wipe out the charges. >> it's just a huge bill. it's not right. >> reporter: vontage would not comment but offered him a $1,000 credit. we worked with his credit card discover, which dropped it another grand. >> it gives me peace of mind. >> yeah. speaking of phones, a lot of iphone users are saying it's about time. as of tonight, google maps are back. >> that's right. apple removed the feature a few months ago and it was a fiasco.
